Subnautica 2 to Launch Day One on Xbox Game Pass, Developer Confirms
Subnautica 2 will be available on Xbox Game Pass at launch, developer Unknown Worlds Entertainment announced today. The underwater survival sequel arrives on May 14 for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass members.
The game will release on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and the Rog Ally. Unknown Worlds confirmed the simultaneous launch for both console and PC subscribers.
“We’re thrilled to bring Subnautica 2 directly to Game Pass players on day one,” said David Kalina, studio head at Unknown Worlds. “It’s our way of thanking the community that made the original a phenomenon.”
Early Access on Xbox and PC
Like its predecessor, Subnautica 2 will enter early access — branded as Game Preview on Xbox. The exact launch times for both platforms have been released separately.

Players can expect a steady stream of updates throughout early access. Unknown Worlds has not yet committed to a full release date.
Record Wishlist Numbers
Subnautica 2 enters the market with immense hype. It is currently the No. 1 most wishlisted game on Steam, according to the platform’s data.
“That kind of anticipation is rare for a survival game,” said industry analyst Marie Chen of Gamer Insights. “It shows the power of the Subnautica brand.”
Background
The original Subnautica, released in 2018, became a critical and commercial hit. Its spin-off, Below Zero, also enjoyed strong fan support.
Unknown Worlds has not confirmed a release on PlayStation 5 or Nintendo Switch 2. The current focus is solely on Xbox and PC via Game Pass.

What This Means
For Game Pass subscribers, Subnautica 2 represents a major day-one addition. The deal strengthens Microsoft’s value proposition for its subscription service.
The lack of PlayStation or Switch confirmation suggests a timed exclusivity period. Unknown Worlds may announce additional platforms after early access concludes.
“Game Pass subscribers are getting the hottest indie sequel at no extra cost,” Chen added. “That’s a win for players.”
